Midtown Madness 2 – Player Vehicle “’70 Van” Released

After converting a few of the cars from Vigilante 8, I’ve realised what Angel Studios staff went through with the amount of renaming of the files for the vehicles.
Looking through some of the base mm2*.AR archives, you’ll find some levels of frustration of how often it had to be done.

Angel’s message

So, I decided to write my own program (firstly in PowerShell) then I ported the code to Python, because WinForms are really ugly and can’t really be skinned well. This is why pyQT5 becomes very useful.

The program creates a base structure of a new vehicle, and enters some information to bypass all the annoying renaming (regardless if you script it, it’s still something you have to go back and do). This also takes care of the aud’s cardata.csv files too.

To test this program, I ended up creating the ’70 Van from Vigilante 8. The structure was automatically generated by the program, and it was a matter of saving the pkg in geometry folder, moving in the textures and it’s ready to go (minus your own tuning and other minor extras).

Click the button below to take you to the newly setup Midtown Madness 2 page.

Tools will take you to the Python program I mentioned earlier, and vehicles will take you to the ’70 Van.
