Midtown Madness 2 – Player Vehicle “FUNNY-BUG” Released

FUNNY-BUG has now been ported to Midtown Madness 2.

This was a huge milestone and technical challenge to get this mod to a release standard.

Wreckless/Double S.T.E.A.L is a rather unpopular game, there’s not much information about how the game is packed, or any tools out there to unpack them. A lot of trial and error was performed, learning how XBOX games actually stored and accessed its data.

With that part studied and roughly understood, I was able to unpack the entire game. From there I was then able to unpack it again… That’s right, the game is compressed twice! Luckily, I was able to parse structure for both.

Got the textures, sounds and other relevant data to then import and fix up the mesh. Mesh took me around 1 week and a half to fix its flaws, merging vertices, merging normals, marking areas sharp, adding origins to animate later etc etc.

Other technical achievement for this mod was the suspension and arm objects so that MM2Hook is able to animate them based on the bumps or air the car takes. In Wreckless this effect is very exaggerated, most noticeable when you roll the buggy over.

I wanted to replicate this effect the best I could in Midtown Madness 2. The outcome was quite good and would have to say this is my most detailed mod currently.
